Download 5.3.2Every official Krita release is published with SHA256 and SHA1 checksums. After downloading, compute the hash of your file and compare it to the published value. Matching hashes confirm your download was not corrupted or tampered with during transfer.

Replace with the checksums published alongside your specific download version.
Windows and macOS installers may be code-signed by the Krita Foundation or KDE project maintainers. Code signing verifies the publisher identity and confirms the binary has not been modified since signing. On Windows, right-click the installer, select Properties, and check the Digital Signatures tab.
Linux AppImage packages can be verified using GPG signatures when provided with the release. Always prefer signed packages when available.
Krita is fully open source under the GNU General Public License v3. The complete source code is publicly available, allowing security researchers, developers, and users to audit every line of code that runs on their system.
There is no hidden telemetry, no proprietary lock-in, and no obfuscated binaries. What you download is exactly what the community builds and publishes. Independent verification is not just encouraged, it is structurally possible.

Open source applications like Krita occasionally trigger heuristic false positives. Antivirus engines use pattern matching and behavioral analysis that can misidentify legitimate unsigned or less-common binaries as suspicious. This is a known industry-wide issue affecting many open source projects, not evidence of malware.
Krita has passed comprehensive security scans with clean results: virus free, spyware free, and malware free. Security score: 100/100 clean.
If your antivirus blocks Krita, verify the SHA256 checksum matches the official release, add Krita to your antivirus exclusion list, or consult our antivirus troubleshooting guide.
